How Can I Contribute?
Do you or someone you know live through an important moment in Waelder's history? Do you know of a family story that you think readers of this website would like to hear about? Do you have any old newspaper clippings pertaining to Waelder or it's citizens that you'd like to share? How about pictures of old buildings and/or the history that goes along with them?
I am looking for stories with vivid characters, good details, and a strong sense of time and place - something that will help people build a strong mental picture of the history and heritage of our great little city. Keep in mind that this does not mean you have to be a great writer, just a good story teller.
A great story can be as short as a few paragraphs or as long as a few pages. Don't feel that you have to write something really long to get people's attention. If know the history of a place, a location or a person and would like to share it, I encourage you to do so -- sometimes the most ordinary and simple stories are the most fascinating ones!
You can contact me at waelder@planetd21.com and provide me with a quick summary of your intended submission. Once I receive your email, I will work with you through the details and we'll be well on our way to creating something that I'm sure many others will enjoy.
I prefer electronic submissions, but I understand this may not always be possible. If you need to send something via postal mail, then please contact me at waelder@planetd21.com and we can discuss available options.
Below I provide some basic tips for submissions:
- Keep a good sense of the time and place.
- Be sure to include as many details as possible.
- Include strong characters (either you yourself or someone closely linked to you).
- Pictures are worth a thousand words!
Other things to keep in consideration:
- Put your story in context. Lots of different people will be reading your stories, so if you're talking about a place, give them a general idea of where it is.
- Stick to the facts - or at least as you remember them or as they were told to you. However, don't be afraid to talk about your feelings.
The main thing to remember is that I am trying to build a broad picture of the heritage, history and culture of Waelder and the Waelder area. Without your assistance, this would not be possible. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Sincerely,
Ryan Tovar
